Getting started

What do I need to use Novelwave?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later. To sync your library between devices, sign in to iCloud on each of them.

How do I add audiobooks?

In Library, tap + and choose Local Files or iCloud Drive, then pick as many audio files as you like.

When you save, choose Save Separately to make each file its own audiobook, or Merge Into One Audiobook to combine them, with your own title, author and cover. You can also choose which shelf they go to.

Which file formats are supported?

Common audiobook and audio formats, including M4B, M4A and MP3. If a file has chapters, Novelwave shows them in the player.

How do I import from iCloud Drive?

Go to Profile, then Sources, and connect iCloud Drive. Novelwave creates its own folder in your iCloud Drive. Put your audiobooks in that folder using the Files app, then import them from iCloud Drive in Library.

Library and sync

How do I organize my library?

Create shelves with the shelf button in Library, and put shelves inside other shelves as deep as you like. Swipe on an audiobook to move it, mark it as finished, reset its progress and more.

To sort, filter or move several audiobooks at once, use the ⋯ menu.

How does sync work?

Your shelves, audiobook details, chapters, bookmarks and listening progress sync through iCloud to every device signed in to the same Apple Account. Each device downloads its own copy of an audiobook's audio when you play it.

Why does an audiobook say it isn't on this device?

Its audio is stored in iCloud and hasn't been downloaded to this iPhone yet. Tap it to download it. In the meantime, you can still edit and organize it.

Why are some details missing from a book I imported from iCloud Drive?

An audiobook's full details become available after its first download finishes. They stay available even if you remove the download later.

Playback

How do I change the playback speed?

In the player, tap the speed button at the bottom left. Choose anywhere from 0.5× to 6× for the current audiobook.

How do I set a sleep timer?

In the player, tap the moon button. Choose a number of minutes, or stop at the end of the current chapter or file.

How do bookmarks work?

Tap the bookmark button in the player to add a bookmark at your current position. You can find, rename and add notes to your bookmarks in the player's chapters and bookmarks list.

Can I change how far rewind and fast-forward skip?

Yes. In Profile, open Settings to choose skip durations from 5 to 45 seconds. You'll also find options to rewind a little whenever you pause, resume after interruptions, and start playing as soon as you open an audiobook.

Can I control playback from my headphones?

Yes. On compatible headphones, press once to play or pause, twice to skip forward and three times to skip back. You can also control playback from the Lock Screen and Control Center.

How do I add the Now Playing widget?

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Novelwave. The widget comes in small and medium sizes.

Storage and data

How do I free up space?

Swipe on an audiobook imported from iCloud Drive and remove its download. It stays in your library and can be downloaded again at any time.

You can also use Recover storage in Profile to clear away files Novelwave no longer uses. It doesn't affect your audiobooks.

How do I back up my library?

In Profile, choose Export your library to save a complete copy to any folder in Files. To export a single audiobook, swipe on it and choose Export to Files.

How do I start over?

In Profile, choose Reset your library. This permanently removes all shelves, audiobooks, bookmarks and progress from all your devices, and it can't be undone, so export a copy first if you might need it.
